Dandelion Chocolate 70% Bar, Anamalai

$11.00

Tasting notes: tasting notes: kumquat, hojicha milk tea

Savor these single origin chocolate bars from Dandelion Chocolate, a bean-to-bar chocolate maker in San Francisco's Mission District. For over 10 years, it's been making single-origin dark chocolate from only two ingredients: cocoa beans and organic sugar.

These chocolate beans come from Regal Plantations in Anamalai in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Producers Karthikeyan Palanisamy and Harish Kumar grow cacao trees intercropped among coconut palms and nutmeg trees, which improves their land's biodiversity and soil quality. The plantation is visited by tigers from the preserve next door, and by elephants who pull snacks from coconut palms.

Anamalai's cacao trees tend to produce fruit-forward beans that feature bright, tropical tasting notes. To profile their first India beans in three harvest years, Dandelion Chocolate accentuated these beans’ unique herbaceous notes.

Dandelion Chocolate
Made in San Francisco, CA

Ingredients: cocoa beans and sugar

No added cocoa butter, lecithin, or vanilla. Dandelion Chocolate is free of soy, dairy, eggs, and gluten, and it is made in a factory that does not process nuts.

Shelf life: two years from date of production.

Store in a cool and dark place, ideally between 40°F-68°F. Do not freeze. Two-ingredient chocolate won’t go “bad” like milk chocolate or chocolate with additional ingredients (e.g. inclusions or nuts)

If your bar melts or blooms, the flavor notes will still be present though the bar will have lost its characteristic snap. Feel free to use bloomed chocolate for making hot chocolate or baking.

A Well Curated, Elevated, and Accessible Collection

At our retail store, we also often hear, "Can I move in?" Joking aside, we find this high praise. It means everything we've selected looks great and looks great together, and provides a sense of comfort and familiarity. Elevated, but still down-to-earth, where folks can imagine these items in their homes. Mission accomplished.

We're also about products made well, in more ways than one.

Not Just Buying Well, But Also Buying Kinder

We strive to support ethical and sustainable production by being mindful of our sourcing decisions, which can mean, for example, choosing products that use sustainable and natural materials, are made by artisans and craftspeople who live in places with worker protections, or uses a process that minimizes waste. We may not save the world with these measures, but we feel that at the very least we can choose to minimize further harm.

We also love supporting independent designers and craftspeople, and working with smaller, lesser-known brands. You'll find handmade pieces in our collection where we know who made it!
